Privacy Policy

Last updated: 1 September 2026

This policy explains what The House That Walks does with information when you play it. It is written to be read, not to be survived. The short version: the game keeps your progress on your own device and sends it nowhere, and the only data that ever leaves your phone does so because you chose to watch an advert.

Who is responsible

The House That Walks is made and published by an independent developer. For anything in this policy, or any question about your data, write to ajoyrahul.a@gmail.com.

What the game stores on your device

The game saves your progress locally, in the app's own storage on your phone. That is:

  • which rooms you have solved, and the stars and times you earned
  • your chalk balance and the wardrobe items you own or have equipped
  • your settings, and the room you were part-way through so it can be resumed

None of this is transmitted anywhere. There is no account, no login, no profile and no server holding a copy. It exists only on your device. If you uninstall the game, it is gone. If you have Android's app backup switched on, Google may include it in your device backup — that is a function of your Google account and your Android settings, not something the game sends.

Advertising

The game contains one advert, and it is optional. It is a rewarded advert: you may choose to watch a video in exchange for a random cosmetic item. You are shown the odds before you agree, and declining costs you nothing.

Adverts are served by Google AdMob. If you watch one, AdMob may collect and process:

  • your device's advertising ID — a resettable identifier Android provides for this purpose
  • technical information about your device, such as its model, operating system version and general region
  • information about the advert itself: that it was requested, shown, and whether it was watched to the end

This is used to select an advert, to measure it, and to prevent fraud. It is shared with Google, who act as a third party here, and it is sent over an encrypted connection. It is not used to build a profile of you by the developer, who never receives it.

Google's own handling of this data is described in the Google privacy & terms notice for partner sites. You can reset or delete your advertising ID, or opt out of ad personalisation entirely, in Android Settings → Privacy → Ads.

If you never watch an advert, no advertising data is collected from you.

Purchases

The game offers optional in-app purchases: a one-time unlock and three packs of chalk, the game's in-game currency. All purchases are handled entirely by Google Play Billing. The game never sees, receives or stores your payment details — no card number, no billing address, nothing. It is told only whether a purchase succeeded, and it records that fact on your device.

Google's handling of a Play purchase is covered by the Google Privacy Policy. Chalk can only be spent inside this game and has no value outside it.

What the game does not do

  • It does not ask for an account, an email address or a name.
  • It does not request your location, contacts, camera, microphone or photos.
  • It does not contain analytics of its own, and does not track how you play.
  • It does not contain social features, chat, or any way for players to reach each other.
  • It does not sell data to anyone, because it does not hold any to sell.

Children

The House That Walks is not directed at children under 13. It is not designed for, marketed to, or intended for them. The developer does not knowingly collect any information from a child under 13. If you believe a child has provided information through this app, write to the address above and it will be dealt with.

Your rights, and how to exercise them

Because the game holds nothing about you on any server, there is no account for the developer to look up, export or delete. In practice:

  • Deletion. Uninstalling the game, or clearing its storage in Android Settings → Apps → The House That Walks → Storage, permanently removes everything the game has kept about you.
  • Advertising data. Reset or delete your advertising ID in Android Settings, as described above. To have Google delete data already associated with it, use Google's own controls at myadcenter.google.com.
  • Anything else. Write to ajoyrahul.a@gmail.com and you will get a reply.

If you are in the UK, the EEA, or a jurisdiction with comparable law, you have rights of access, correction, erasure, restriction and objection over personal data. The only personal data involved here is the advertising identifier described above, and it is held by Google rather than by the developer, so those requests are best made through Google's controls — but the address above will help you either way.

Changes to this policy

If the game changes in a way that affects this policy — a new form of data, a new third party — this page will be updated and the date at the top will change. The current version is always the one at this URL.
